Canadian Pre-Roll Trends of 2026
Posted by Cones Canada on Jul 9th 2026
With the year now officially halfway behind us and the summer pre-roll boom ready to start, let's take a look at the top Canadian pre-roll trends of 2026 so far to see just what pre-rolls you need to get into the shops for the warmest months of the year.
We'll take a look at the overall 2026 numbers so far, compare them to last year, dive into how each different type of pre-roll is selling and then look at the top brands and pre-roll products so far this year.
Let's get into it.
2026 Pre-Rolls By the Numbers
Pre-rolls are most popular category in Canadian cannabis, raking in $1.4 billion in 2025 on the sale of 77.2 million units, good enough for a 33.9% market share, according to point-of-sales data from cannabis analytics firm Headset.
And so far, the scorching hot Canadian pre-roll market shows no signs of slowing down through 2026.
So far, in the first six months of 2026, pre-rolls have sold 39.7 million units, generating $720.5 million in revenue. That's growth of 9.1% in units sold and growth of 7.1% in revenue over the same time period in 2025.
That's solid growth on both metrics so far this year. If both the revenue and units sold numbers were simply doubled to make for a 12-month total, it would equal last year's revenue take and show some minor growth in units sold. However, the data tells us that Q3, or the summer months, is traditionally the best time of year for pre-roll sales, which should push totals even higher.
For example, in 2025, Q3 was easily the best quarter of the year for pre-roll sales, with pre-roll sales jumping 7% in the summer months. If that pattern holds, it should mean quarterly sales of about $412.2 million dollars for the pre-roll category in summer 2026, bringing yearly revenue totals to around the $1.1 billion mark with a full quarter of holiday sales to go.
What Pre-Rolls are Selling in 2026?
While the top pre-roll segments have not changed from 2025, the biggest growth segment can be found at the third spot so far this year.
The Canadian pre-roll category in 2026 continues to be dominated by the single strain hybrid pre-roll which has generated $270.8 million in revenue on sales of 14.6 million units so far in 2026. That's year-over-year growth of 10.7% and about 38% of all pre-roll sales.
Hybrid pre-rolls have an average unit price of $18.17, which accounts for all different size packages – including both single-serving pre-roll products and multi-packs - and a per-gram equalized price of $6.42.
Coming in a close second is the infused segment, which sold 9.6 million units in the first half of 2026, generating $242 million in revenue with an average item price of $25.25, equalized to a per-gram price of $15. However, revenues for the infused segment are actually down 3.9% year-over-year.
But this tracks with the previous year, as Canadian pre-roll smokers consistently prefer hybrid pre-rolls over the infused variety. The next segment, however, is creating the biggest waves in the Canadian pre-roll market.
The indica single strain pre-roll lands in the third spot and leads the entire category in growth. So far this year, indica pre-roll revenue is up 26.9% year-over-year, generating $97.4 million through June 2026 on sales of about 5.2 million units, a 33.8% jump over the same time frame last year. Indica pre-rolls have an average price of $14.11 per unit, equalized to $5.87 per gram.
Sativa pre-rolls come in next at $79.9 million in revenue through the first six months of 2026 on sales of 5.7 million units. That's 19.5% growth in revenue over the same time period last year and 14.2% growth in unit sales. Sativa pre-rolls have an average item price of $14.08 so far this year and an equalized per-gram price of $6.19.
Mixed strain pre-rolls ($18 million, 631,000 units), blunts ($9.5 million, 844,000 units) and CBD pre-rolls ($2.9 million, 142,000 units) round out the category.
Top Pre-Roll Brands of 2026
Turning our attention to top Canadian pre-roll brands so far this year, there is a new king in the top spot compared to this time in 2025.
So far this year, the top-selling pre-roll brand in Canada is Back Forty, taking the top spot from General Admission, which is down to No. 2.
In the first six months of 2026, Back Forty sold $51 million worth of pre-rolls compared to $47 million for General Admission. Back Forty moved more than 2 million units with an average item price of $25.10, while General Admission sold 1.6 million units at an average price of $28.78.
Landing third so far in 2026 is Claybourne Co at 27.9 million in revenue on sales of just 846,000 units with an average price point of $33.06.
At fourth is the company that sold more units than any other. Thumbs Up Brand sold more than 2.1 million pre-roll units, but with an average price of just $10.33, generating $22.4 million in revenue. Thumbs Up Brand has the lowest average product price among the top 20 brands.
Good Supply rounds out the top 5 with sales of $22.1 million and 1.7 million units with an average price of $12.93.
Interesting to note, American upstart Jeeter, which finished 2025 at third on the sales charts and has the highest average price point in the top 30 at $33.10, dropped to sixth so far this year, generating $20.6 million on sales of just 622,000 units.
Top Pre-Roll Products
Finally, let's take a look at the top pre-roll products of 2026 so far. A quick look at the charts shows that all but one of the top 50 pre-roll products in Canada are multi-packs, with the exception being a 0.5-gram pre-roll sitting at no. 49.
Sitting in the number one spot so far this year is the Thumbs Up Brand Indica 2-gram pre-roll 2-pack at $8.8 million in revenue so far in 2026 on sales of 942,600 units. Like the entire indica segment, that's a massive increase over 2025; 27.1% increase in revenues and a 27.4 increase in units sold year-over year on the 2-pack. The Thumbs Up Brand indica 2-pack accounts for 2.4% of all pre-roll units sold in Canada so far this year, easily the most of any single product.
At second is an infused product, Claybourne Co.'s Frosted Flyers – Variety Pack Infused Pre-Roll 5-Pack (2.5 gram) pulling in $8.2 million in the first half of the year on sales of 230,000 units. Despite its continued high ranking and revenue, however, the Frosted Flyers saw a drop from 2025 in both revenue and units (both down 16.5%).
At No.3 is perhaps the biggest growth on the chart, showing a staggering 7,630% year-over-year growth in revenue (that's not a typo): Back Forty' Liquid Imagination 10-pack (7.5 grams). In the first six months of 2026, Canadians bought 213,000 of the hybrid pre-roll products at an average price point of $37.12 for an incredible $7.9 million in revenue, up from just $102,300 in the first half of 2025.
Good Supply's indica Double Dutchies Double Up Pre-Roll 2-Pack (2 grams) comes in fourth so far this year with revenues of $7.5 million (a 968% increase over the same time last year) on sales of 795,000 units.
Rounding out the No. 5 is the Sativa Pre-Roll 2-Pack (2 Grams) from Thumbs Up Brand, selling 737,900 units for $6.1 million in revenue.
Two other quick notes from the Top 10: At No. 7 is another major mover on the year, Back Forty's Backpackers – Fire Breath Pre-Roll 10-Pack, a 7.5-gram indica pre-roll multipack, raking in $6 million on sales of 174,600 units. That's a 4,693% YoY increase in revenue, and a 5,158% YoY increase in units sold.
Also worth noting is Jeeter's Baby Jeeter Infused Pre-Roll 5-pack (2.5 grams) at no. 9. Despite a fast start and quick growth as it launched into the Canadian market in 2024, sales of the Baby Jeeters are down 35.8% YoY with revenue of about $6 million on sales of 248,000 units.
Final Thoughts on Canadian Pre-Roll Trends of 2026
Canada's hottest cannabis category, the pre-roll, is only getting hotter in 2026. Sales are up, revenues are up and market share is up over the same period last year.
And the category's hottest sales quarter is just getting started.
As expected, hybrid pre-rolls continue to be the top-selling segment, followed by infused pre-rolls, but the indica pre-roll has shown tremendous growth and is, by all accounts, the hottest segment in the country right now.
That all said the top sales charts show that Canadians love their variety, with the top 5 products including two indica pre-roll products, an infused product, a hybrid product and a sativa product, indicating that any pre-roll brand looking to make an impact this year will need to have a strategic line of products.
One thing Canadian pre-roll buyers all agree on however is the multi-pack, which is dominating the sales charts so far in 2026.
