+What are your pre-rolled cones made from, and what’s the difference between paper types?

We offer two primary paper options through Cones Canada, including natural brown cones made from wood-pulp brown paper that retains more natural plant components, and white pre-rolled cones are made from refined white paper, often referred to as “rice paper” in the industry.

Despite the name, rice paper is not made from rice. The term originated in the early 1900s when European importers incorrectly believed certain papers were rice-based. Today, marketing language such as “rice paper” refers broadly to highly refined, pulp-based white papers.

Refined white paper tends to produce a cleaner, more neutral smoke because the refinement process removes lignin, a natural compound that can contribute to flavor. Brown paper retains more of these natural components and has a darker, more natural appearance.

Importantly, our white paper is not bleached, it is thoroughly refined to remove plant matter and lignin without chemical bleaching.
